Rachel is a visual artist based in South East London. Primarily working with acrylic on canvas, Rachel produces large abstract works inspired by human form. Life drawings are the point of origin for the abstract paintings, as Rachel recreates the human body on canvas with sweeping brush strokes. Often working to music, the creative process combines the initial life drawing work and Rachel’s own body and movements on the canvas. There is a constant exploration of colour, which can often be influenced by mood or music at that moment in time. Working in layers Rachel adds shapes and symbols to inject the canvas with those body parts that may have become lost in the abstraction process. Culminating together in a dancing swirl of colour, shape and line. As part of the creative process Rachel also videos and photographs the painting in a performative way.
